Senior Director, Communications
Ann Smith is the senior director of Communications for Consolidated Nuclear Security, the management and operating contractor for the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In this role, she directs external and internal communications at Y‑12, including government and community relations, public outreach, and employee communications. She also oversees editorial, graphics, photography, printing, video, and web services for the site. In addition to leading communications at Y‑12, Smith also oversaw communications for the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, while Pantex operated under the CNS contract. During that time, Smith directed external and internal communications at Pantex, as well as the functional services for communications operations.
Before joining CNS in February 2024, Smith was the director of Communications, Marketing, Community, and Public Affairs for the North Wind Group, where she managed client relations, marketing initiatives, publications, advertising, and branding. North Wind has more than 2,000 employees, with projects all over the country, including Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam.
During her more than 23 years of experience leading communications, Smith has developed strategic business initiatives and established communication outreach programs by partnering with local, state, and federal stakeholders in the nuclear and environmental industries. She previously was the manager of Communications and Community Programs for UCOR, also known as United Cleanup Oak Ridge; director of Communications for Perma‑Fix Environmental Services; and vice president of Communications for Safety and Ecology Corporation.
Smith holds an M.B.A. and a B.S. in communications from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has served as a member of the Communications Working Group for DOE’s Energy Facility Contractors Group.
